Family offices
A GIFT City family investment vehicle can consolidate and manage global family wealth with India exposure inside a regulated framework. It is not an automatic entitlement, and it is not automatically incentivised — eligibility, contribution, governance and reporting conditions all have to be met.
Quick answer
A family investment vehicle can be established in the IFSC subject to the applicable eligibility, contribution, governance and reporting conditions. Not every family office qualifies, and qualifying for the structure is a different question from qualifying for any tax incentive — the two are assessed separately.
A family investment fund can consolidate global family assets under one managed structure, subject to the applicable eligibility and contribution conditions.
Investment policy, committee, delegation and permitted asset classes are defined up front and are part of the regulatory picture.
Ownership, control and transmission of interests across generations, aligned with the family's home-country succession position.
Holdings across jurisdictions, currencies and asset classes, with consolidated reporting and valuation.
Constitutional documents, family charter interaction, decision rights, conflicts and record-keeping.
Inbound and outbound flows, permissions, repatriation and treaty considerations where applicable.
Vehicle, income and beneficiary taxation, each assessed separately — no assumption that a family structure is automatically incentivised.
Where a family already operates a UAE family office or foundation, the two structures must be designed together rather than in isolation.

Many families use both: a UAE family office or foundation for regional and global wealth, and a GIFT City vehicle where Indian assets are material. Detail: GIFT City vs DIFC / ADGM.
Incentives attach to specified IFSC activities. An entity in GIFT City carrying on a non-qualifying activity does not get them.
Some reliefs are available only to particular forms — a company, a fund vehicle, a registered lessor or a specified unit.
Valid IFSCA registration or authorisation, and SEZ unit approval where applicable, are usually preconditions.
Several provisions depend on when operations commenced or approval was obtained, with sunset dates.
Relief often applies to defined income streams only. Other income of the same entity may be fully taxable.
Office, employees, decision-making and operational reality in the IFSC support both the regulatory position and the tax position.
Filings, returns, audit and conditions must be maintained. Breach can cost the benefit for the year or the whole claim.
Each provision carries its own specific conditions, which we read against the current statute rather than a summary.
We never imply that a family office automatically receives tax incentives. Benefit depends on eligible activity, entity type, approval status, commencement date, income type, substance and compliance with the specific statutory conditions in force.
Cross-border transactions involving Indian entities operate within the foreign exchange framework, with IFSC-specific provisions where applicable.
Each flow — capital, income, fee, loan or repayment — needs a permitted route and documentation.
Subscription and further capital injections, valuation and reporting requirements where applicable.
Intercompany and external borrowing conditions, permitted lenders, end-use and reporting.
Inbound investment into the IFSC entity and outbound investment by it, each with its own conditions.
Dividends, buy-back, capital reduction and exit proceeds — routes and documentation planned before, not after, the transaction.
Payment of fees abroad requires documentation, tax withholding compliance and, where applicable, certification.
Filings and periodic reporting for foreign investment and borrowing, on their own timelines.

How we state the position
GIFT City offers potential tax and regulatory advantages for qualifying IFSC activities, subject to entity type, income type, licensing, commencement date, substance and current statutory conditions. It is not a tax-free jurisdiction and it is not a generic India incorporation destination.
